When Census 2020 is done and dusted, Fontana is poised to emerge as the new most populous city in San Bernardino County, replacing the city of San Bernardino, which has long held that distinction and prestige as the county seat.

Fontana has much to gain if it were to overtake San Bernardino next year as the most populous city in the county, said Karthick Ramakrishnan, professor of political science and public policy at UC Riverside and director of the Inland Empire Complete Count Committee, a leadership body designed to boost census participation for an accurate count.
