Committee for accurate Inland Empire census count marks formal launch

Riverside, Ca –

The once every 10 year task of counting everyone in the U.S. has arrived once again. The stakes are high as regions whose population go undercounted can miss out on federal and state funding, making an accurate census count critical for potential growth. Riverside and San Bernardino County made a historic move by partnering together to form the Inland Empire Complete Count Committee (link to iecounts.org), a leadership body designed to boost census participation.

The Center for Social Innovation assisted in creating the committee and will continue to as it corresponds with its mission. “Our center is focused on solving problems in the community, broadly defined, and presenting innovative solutions,” Ramakrishnan said during a formal launch event for the committee, held April 15 at UCR. “The 2020 census is a perfect opportunity for doing that.”

Members of the committee will include representatives from the region’s nonprofit, government, education, business, and philanthropic sectors.
