Fatima Nelson

Fatima comes to the Center for Social Innovation with over 20 years of community engagement experience. She began her journey as an undergraduate intern with the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education’s Say Yes to Education program. Her passion for finding resources for underserved communities began with that early work and has carried her throughout her professional career. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Fatima joined the Philadelphia Education Fund and worked with the Center for the Social Organization of Schools (CSOS) at Johns Hopkins University for several years supporting the reorganization of schools and community systems to increase graduation rates and improve student outcomes. Although Fatima has served diverse communities through a variety of organizations, her most recent work with the Long Beach Unified School District over the last 7 years has cemented her commitment to data driven policy making. She managed the implementation of a District-wide college and career awareness initiative funded by a $1.8 million federal grant. This work afforded opportunities for Fatima to bring new and innovative partnerships to the District to contribute to a broader conversation about building sustainable pipelines of achievement for underserved communities. She is excited to join the team at CSI and continue to support projects that will leave a lasting legacy.
