Lin Cong
My name is Lin Cong, I am currently a rising 3rd year Ph.D. student in the Department of Statistics at UCR. I received my master's degree in Statistics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and my bachelor's degree in Statistics at Renmin University of China.
I was born in a small city in northeastern China where the normal temperature in the winter is about -20 °C (-4°F), so I have been enjoying the beautiful view of snow which is not common in California. I went to the capital of the province which is a two-hour train away from my hometown for my high school and went to Beijing, the capital of China which is a 7-hour high-speed rail away from the capital of the province for my undergraduate. I am just one of the many Chinese students who left their hometown at an early age to acquire better education since our parents value the importance of education for their children. So, I also cherish the opportunity of education and wish to contribute myself with what I have learned. That motivates me to join the group in CSI where I can apply the statistical tools I learned for the past years. I am currently in the AAPI data group where I can provide different technical support in data organization, visualization, and analysis using various statistical software, such as R, Python, and so on.
Joining the big family of CSI is both an opportunity and a challenge to me since everyone here has their specializations, I am looking forward to participating in more projects in CSI.
