Riverside, Ca –
The Illinois state legislature has prevented a local county and village from completing a contract with a private company who was planning on housing Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees. The Center for Social Innovation’s Co-Director of the Civic Engagement Group, Francisco Pedraza, states “What you are seeing is the different levels of government - federal, state and local - they are responding in varied ways when you don’t have one single national policy that governs immigration policy. This is part of a patchwork. It depends on where you live if you are going to be subject to immigration policing.”
