There’s been a huge political shift among Asian Americans moving from the Republican to the Democratic party over the last 25 years, said Karthick Ramakrishnan, a political scientist and the director of the UC Riverside Center for Social Innovation. It’s partly a reaction to nativism in the post-9/11 Republican party, said Ramakrishnan, and partly the result of successful outreach by Democrats. Ramakrishnan was speaking at a Zócalo/Daniel K. Inouye Institute event titled “Does a New Wave of Anti-Asian American Racism Require New Ways of Fighting Back?”
