There’s a long, global history to today’s anti-Asian bias and violence

Over the last year, there has been a increased amount of anti-asian violence across the country. But, as author's Kim Yi Dionne, Sarah Hayes and Fulya Felicity Turkmen point out, "‘Foreigners’ have been blamed for disease all the way back to the bubonic plague — and probably beyond." According to a joint survey conducted by AAPI Data and SurveyMonkey, more than 2 million Asian American adults in the country have endured hate crimes or hate incidents since the pandemic began. The current pandemic has resurfaced these issues and all three authors share insight from past epidemics that have been experienced before.
