Center for Social Innovation
In its April 2020 “State of Nonprofits in the Inland Empire” report, the UCR Center for Social Innovation noted that a “strong and vibrant nonprofit sector” can have many positive impacts on the region. This includes the creation of jobs with significantly better pay than other private-sector jobs, increased equity, stronger public-private partnerships, and inclusive regional planning. However, foundation giving in the region per capita is less than 50% of the Central Valley’s and well behind that of Los Angeles County.
According to the report, there are 14,331 nonprofits in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, which offer community members the opportunity to find an organization that most resonates with causes that are meaningful to them. In addition to financial support, there is also a need for volunteers, which many nonprofits depend on and struggle to find. Visitors to the site can easily educate themselves on organizations doing work in the region and connect with them.
IECF has been diligently working to address the disparity in per capita giving to nonprofits in the Inland Empire. The IE Giving Hub, a free resource, is the newest way the organization is tackling the issue.
