After Haley’s announcement, some are eager for more Asian American Republicans to join — or rejoin — the political fray. Haley is a “sharp, bright” person, said M.R. Rangaswami, a software executive from San Francisco who founded the nonprofit Indiaspora to encourage Indian American political involvement.

Karthick Ramakrishnan, founder of the policy research organization AAPI Data, says Haley’s growing resume also makes her a strong fundraising candidate among Indian American donors, especially compared to previous GOP hopeful Jindal.
